Milton Coarse Angling Club 05

Match 1> 24/4/05(Springwater)

On a very bright day with a freezing east wind.  the fishery did not fish as it had on previous matches.
Charlie Roberts with a bonus 1lb 1oz Roach was second with 1lb 8oz.
John Smoat also with a1lb 5oz Roach and an other about 14oz, won the match with 4lb11oz.
By 1pm the fish disappeared and all that was caught was the odd fish, the wind also eased and it turned into a very
warm and sunny day, with some of the anglers getting sun burnt.
I think it was to early to fish this venue and it could do with an other 4 to 6 weeks to warm up and get some plant growth.

Match 2> 8/5/05(Magiscroft)

After a freezing night and a normal Glasgow summer's day, Freezing wind ,hail stones E.t.c. The match
on the Quarry did not turn up the weights expected. With a couple of skimmers and 30 odd small Carp
John Smoat won with 3lb 5oz just ahead of Charlie Roberts with 2lb 8oz. John Keir was third with
1lb 15oz and in last place Willie Harper with 1lb 4oz.  Due to the cold conditions none of the better
fish put in an appearance and we all look forward to the next time when the weather and fish have warmed up.

Match 3> 22/5/05(Torancebridge/back to Cadder)

On a warm sunny/rainy day with good bit of colour in the water.
Feeding hemp and caster it was a bit slow but the fish started to come.
Due to the fact that John Keir bought maggots instead of Pinkies,
we could not feed to much old pinkie, most fish came on single pinkie.
In the last hour I tried some Ground bait and the fish started to come a bit quicker.
1st John Smoat 1lb 11oz
2nd John Keir 10oz
It would have been better to start with ground bait and loose feeding pinkies.

Match 4>5/6/05(Stables/dead tree)

On a humid overcast day with good colour in the water.
Starting with hemp and caster small Roach came to single Pinkie.
John Keir had a decent Perch of 6oz.  Tried ground bait but only caught
3/4 small roach with the odd better Roach 2oz  before they disappeared for 20  minutes or so.
The match was won by John Smoat with 1lb 6oz with John Keir second with 14oz.

Willie Harper has Just had a double header GRANDFATHER and 50 all in two weeks.
Nice one, from all the boys in the club.

On a very humid  thunder and lightning kind of day with the odd downpour.
Small Roach and the odd small Bream were the fish of the day.  (very small)

small Carp, to Win the match with 1lb 14oz,   Second was  John Smoat with 13oz.

Match 6>3/7/05(Girlings)

On a very windy day, John Keir (Mr Perch) had 1lb 14oz of mainly Perch to win the match.
second was John Smoat with 1lb of small Roach. third was Charlie Roberts with 8oz also small Roach.
With the wind being so strong, it was impossible to fish more than 6/7mtre on the inside ledge.

Match 7> 17/7/05(Torrance bridge)

On a very hot day Charlie Roberts had 1lb 3oz to win a very hard match.
John Smoat was second with 13oz.

Match 8>31/7/05(Hillhead basin)

The basin did not fish as well as expected, and the anglers that set out to catch Tench struggled.
John Smoat started with a bed of hemp and caster fishing single pinkie to win the match with 1lb 11oz
of mainly small Roach and the odd Perch.  Willie Harper was second with 14oz after changing to the
chopped worm in a different part of his swim.  overall it was very slow apart from a mad half hour
near the end of the match when it was fish a chuck for small Roach.

Match 9> 14/8/05(Springwater)

On a nice warm day with a bit of colour in the water and some close in weed.
Charlie Roberts had 3 good Roach around the10oz to a  pound mark.
